That means that they can happen any time, as they are due “several times per year.” However, the main question is in regards to how they can affect your website. If changes are happening to Google’s overall SERP then that means that you’re going to need a way to protect your website.

Not only can an algorithm change affect your SEO practices but if you do not have a good quality website then a change in Google’s ranking system may cause your website to drop off the face of page one. So, with Google’s August 1st core update being confirmed by Google’s twitter, you need to know how you can protect your websites from being dropped down the rankings.

The latest update focused on matching appropriate websites to search terms. That means it’s more important than ever to make sure that your content has an authority that can make it stand up over its competition. Keep in mind that in any sort of update, your website’s position may fluctuate. Danny Sullivan, Google’s search Liason did confirm that the update is

“global :)”

This means that it’s more than likely that the update will impact all industries, meaning that you need to make sure that your website has appropriate keywords in its content, quality backlinks, internal links and strong, bespoke content. Keep auditing your website to see which pages might be a problem.

Another way of making sure that your website stands out is by focusing on the “user experience”, aka. how your clients interact with your website. The more time they spend on your pages, the more likely that they will lower your page’s bounce rate. This will mean that Google will deem your website as an authority and will hopefully rank it higher. So, think hard about your website’s overall design, interactive content and how you can use advertising techniques (i.e. clickbait, videos and audio) to keep people on your pages for longer.
